From China to Israel

The Foreign Affairs office of China has been closed for the past week for the Chinese New Year.  They did speak out though, as Israel is doing its normal things, just worse than ever. Israeli apartheid forces killed 9 people in one hour in Jenin on 1/26, including a 61-yr old woman in her home.   They have killed one Palestinian per day this month, and over 150 in the occupied West Bank in 2022.   No condemnation of these horrific attacks.  Yet, Unlike Israel’s massacre in Jenin, the shooting attack in a Jerusalem settlement was swiftly and strongly condemned by the United States and the European Union.   Electronic Intifada states:  The shooting attack in a Jerusalem settlement on Friday marked the first Israeli fatalities in the context of the occupation so far this year, during which more than 30 Palestinians were killed by Israeli soldiers, police and settlers.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson’s Remarks on Recent Escalation of Tensions Between Palestine and Israel

2023-01-29 09:56

Q: Lately, tensions have escalated between Palestine and Israel with violence and conflicts on the rise. On January 26, Israeli forces clashed with Palestinians while conducting a raid in the West Bank city of Jenin, leaving more than ten Palestinians dead. On January 27, a terrorist attack at a religious site in East Jerusalem caused civilian casualties. What’s China’s comment?

A: China has been closely following the recent escalation of tensions between Palestine and Israel. We are deeply saddened by the civilian casualties caused by the Palestine-Israel conflicts. We condemn all terrorist attacks targeting civilians and oppose excessive use of force. The pressing priority is to do everything possible to deescalate the situation and call on all parties, Israel in particular, to show calm and restraint in order to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control.

The Palestine-Israel conflict has been recurring fundamentally because the two-state solution has not been delivered and the Palestinian people have long been denied their legitimate aspiration of establishing an independent state. The international community needs to act with a stronger sense of urgency and create conditions for the resumption of talks between Palestine and Israel. China will continue to work hard for a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian question.
