In the Great Hall of the People …

Scandal? Health?, Re-education camp for grandpa?, emergency with his wife?;  we don’t know. But never mind the reason, the following five years will be owned by Xi Jingping and team.

This was extremely embarassing – high drama in China, to say the least: former President Hu Jintao was removed from the Great Hall of the People, and left an empty seat to the left of Xi Jinping, at the close of the 20th Party Congress.  These types of events in China are highly choreographed and I don’t think we can speculate about a visible scandal.

NO ONE really knows the reason: kind of a state secret. Speculation in the Chinese net is at fever pitch.

It could be merely a health issue, considering how frail Hu really is.

Or it could be a graphic image promoting the shock of the new, the CPC version: Hu is now out of the Politburo, and so is his protege, Prime Minister Li Keqiang, whose two terms have ended.

Tomorrow is the Big Day. The new 205 members of the Central Committee have already been announced. They will elect the new Politburo Standing Committee – the Magnificent 7 that REALLY rule.

A correspondent says he expects that not even a sniff of the west will remain.

No.. not health. Given the import and the timing, they would have stuck a colostomy bag on him and drip-fed him drugs to get through the occasion.. and note how he fights it so bitterly and stands arguing for so long.. and the stony face of his rigidly forward-facing protege Premier Li.. both knew it was Game Over if escorted out. This was an incendiary humiliation ritual.. one of the worst things can be done in any society to its former leader! what I do not know is if it was warranted — that Hu had gone rogue and been… Read more »

The Long Goodbye to Hu has ended. A warning to the Komsomol that public humiliation will be the least they face if any of them attempt a coup or dissent from the Main Line of Xi’s Ideology. The scent of blood in Zhongnanhai was “reported” by the West to the West, but nothing could be further from the truth. We just were witness to the bloodless termination of Hu, the Liberal emeritus. The next opportunity to turn China from Socialism with Chinese Characteristics (Jinping’s version, not what you think it is) will be two generations from now. The youth will… Read more »

Sorry my bad 🙁 these 2 from previous 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party –> (cut and paste from wiki) Wang Huning (born 1955) – a major figure in charge of theory and ideology in the Communist Party, Wang Huning became the first theorist and ideologue to join the top rung of the party leadership since 1978; at the Congress, he was named the top-ranked Secretary of the Secretariat. Wang was also the only member of the Standing Committee without experience as a provincial-level party secretary Zhao Leji (born 1957) – head of the Organization Department prior to… Read more »

be well, what you say may be technically correct (the Alzheimer) but makes no sense protocol-wise. If so frail, and prone to sleepiness, you can give him stimulants. Or keep him home and offstage altogether. You can even insert digitally-controlled anal beads as with the American chess masters and jolt him if needed! A civilization this old would have thought through all contingencies and not made this clumsy a screw-up.. especially during the most VIP meeting of Xi’s present and future. I don’t buy it. There were major messages being sent. Hu served as the vehicle. The excuse of illness… Read more »
